City of Kemah - Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m.  The city will close 6th Street between Bradford and Kipp so patrons can view the show at party locations that include Bakkhaus Greek Restaurant, Palapa’s, Zone 504 Sports Bar and Money Bar. For family viewing, the Kemah Visitor Center will be open and serving complimentary popcorn and soft drinks, while supplies last. An outdoor viewing location will be available behind the Kemah Visitor Center in the parking lot at 604 Bradford with a big screen TV, so bring your lawn chairs.

The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake, 2000 Nasa Pkwy, Nassau Bay – Come and meet wood sculptor Jim Phillips, woodworker Jeremy Grubb, artist and Friendswood High School art teacher Jenifer Sundrla, and jewelry designer Sabine Stromeyer. These four amazing artists affiliated with TAACCL contributed their time and skills to the build in Kemah.  The artists’ reception will begin at 5:30 p.m.  Artists will be available for interviews and questions. TV munchies will be served. DVDs with behind-the-scenes footage of the build, as well as T shirts and other “Extreme Makeover” memorabilia will be available for sale

Houston, TX Bay Area (January 8, 2010) – With the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition television crew in town for its 174th home build, the spirit of giving back to the community is in peak form. With over one thousand people looking to volunteer their time and talents supporting home construction, there are thousands more who can make a strong impact in additional ways.

In conjunction with this week-long home renovation project, citizens of Bay Area Houston are encouraged to give the gift of life during any one of the blood drives scheduled over the next week. The area is fortunate to have two important organizations, the American Red Cross and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, join forces to replenish area blood supply, much of it severely depleted last year by Hurricane Ike.

The UTMB Blood Center provides blood and blood components to the patients it serves as well as the patients in Shriners Burns Hospital of Galveston. UTMB was severely impacted by Hurricane Ike and the Blood Center was one of the areas that endured the most damage. After losing two blood mobiles, many supplies and equipment, they are working hard to rebuild their blood donor program. UTMB is proud to introduce their brand new, state-of-the-art blood mobile to the local community. The UTMB Blood Center relies on organizations, businesses and schools throughout the entire Galveston County to support their needs of maintaining a safe and adequate blood supply.

Houston, TX Bay Area (January 7, 2010) – Ty Pennington and the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition television crew paid an unexpected visit to Larry and Melissa Beach and their 13 children this morning as they pulled into their driveway at 1013 Delesandri Lane in Kemah (Galveston, County) TX to deliver the exciting news. The Beach family was ecstatic to learn that they were the recipients of a brand new home to be completed and move–in ready in seven days. The show will air in March.

Extreme Blood Drive
On January 14th the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will be in the parking lot of the Kemah Visitor’s Center at 603 Bradford in Kemah. The Houston Bay Area is up to the challenge of beating any previous blood donation records associated with EM:HE and encourages everyone to come out and give the gift of life. Extreme Food Drive
Also, Interfaith Caring Ministries will be on hand, at the Kemah Visitor’s Center at 603 Bradford in Kemah, collecting non–perishable items for a food drive Jan. 9 – 14 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Items needed: Canned meat, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, cookies, juices, toilet paper, sanitary napkins, toothpaste, size 5 diapers, and baby wipes.

About the Family
The home will be completed in 106 hours by a team of vendors and volunteers lead by Blu Shields Construction, and will be designed to fit the needs of the Beach family. In 23 years of marriage, Larry, 40 and Melissa, 40; have fostered over 85 children that other adoption agencies were not able to place. They have four biological children and nine adopted children. They include Chris (23,), Michael (21), Jose (20), Mikala (18), Paul (14), Faith (13), Hope (9), Justin (8), Jacob (4), Grace (4), Jeremiah (23 months), Mercy (22 months) and Cody (19) currently serving in the Marine Corps in Afghanistan. During the last 12 years, they have fostered approximately 85 children, but decided to start adopting after seeing that so many were not being placed in homes.

Due to water damage from Hurricane Ike, the Beach family home is unlivable and they are residing in a travel trailer on their property. Therefore, they have been unable to adopt additional children. But all that is about to change!!
